The loss of traditional building skills is a general problem in Europe and it is particularly acute in Venice.
The system that underpins its survival requires re-enforcing, particularly following the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic:
- SKILLS that maintain and repair the surfaces are being lost
- UNDERSTANDING of the materials and their appropriate use is being eroded
- Economic & social STRUCTURES that support conservation need strengthening
- A higher LEVEL of PERFORMANCE will be requiredin order to protect historic fabric from the effects of climate change.
